Reading this after seeing the text and now I understand the petition for the 'was it the substack' shirt. I'd gladly take one

personal essays are not diary entries wow this is EXACTLY what i needed to read right now!! my first two substack posts are about men who didn’t like me back lol but i knew i had to hit publish and not worry too much about people reading my work and “knowing too much”. just subscribed!

Nobody wants to hear about lukewarm feelings!! Welcome to the club, my personal life has blown up a couple of times because of my writing but that’s the price I guess?!

I am confused by "The Text" bc you just said you kind of liked him?? Good riddance I guess!

He was not ready for me to kinda like him (I was seeing him on a regular basis what did he expect?)

Honestly how dare you.

Do I do things for the plot? No. I was in a seven year relationship and I just wrote a piece on treating my sexuality and romantic life like a dictatorship. But saw your post about getting dumped over your substack post and I wanted to read - i love women dedicated to their craft. I started reading. Realised it is pure and it has a pull. Started again, like a favourite song. Your commitment to the exercise of writing, graveyard-notes, “over-caffeinated and practically crawling up the walls” (loved the line) and love for friendship is poetically relatable. I have also found myself lost in genuineness of 3am, waking up realising it is at best average but the flow was worth it.

Onto your piece: Probably Lana del Rey and Cigarettes after Sex in the background helped, but oh have I enjoyed this. Keep them coming - your thoughts I mean.

Silva, thank you so much for your comment! In the words of Nora Ephron, "everything is copy!" I'm still figuring out the balance of how much of my personal life I'm willing to pull from for my writing, but at twenty-three, I think it's really not that serious. Hoping you will enjoy my other pieces!

As a 29 year old I can confirm and may I add: It has never been that serious and probably never will. Saved so many of your posts and can not wait to read them with morning coffee(s).

Well if I was your ex, your Substack post would be a total red flag.

Imagine this post would have been written by a man about women. Imagine this man would date your bestie. I bet you’d strongly advise her to dump him 😉
